I got called out by someone on Friday!
Thursday evening I was on my weekly group coaching call (yes – I pay for a coach) and I never had any actual questions but decided to declare some intentions to the group before next weeks call. Use it as accountability.
I mentioned how I put a post on FB relating to goals for the quarter etc and it met with limited response. I think that’s mainly because most of folk live a reactionary life rather than a proactive one. As in – whatever the day brings along, gets dealt with or heaped onto the pile of all the OTHER things. And, to be honest, I’m a little guilty of this myself, but have got a lot better at it and do plan my week out, every week… before chaos tries its best to derail my plans! But – I do have a plan for each week and I stick to it as best I can.
Craig, my coach said – Post your goals in here on the community pages. I thought – Yes, of course. A group full of like-minded people. Why not.
When I did so, he himself commented ‘That’s a big list’ (Quarterly goals should be ideally ONE big thing or Three at most – I have Five)
Three of my items, are side projects that run concurrently with my main two. I.e – getting the garden done, decluttering my house…and life! And woodworking projects
He said ‘Try and get some quick wins and toss those cycling magazines to the trash today” (Declutter goal)
My reply – “Hmm. This is Today – Drive to the North East, 3 sports massages to deliver, a gig to go to, stay at a friends house. Saturday – 5K Park run, get home, prep and make 100 pizzas for a wedding. Sunday – BACK to the North East for the cross country for my running club”
“literally NO time spent on any of your goals” is what all I got back.
OUCH – Called out big style
“What would you say to a coaching client if this was THEIR weekend plans?” And with that, I stepped back and viewed the insanity of it all. The old me would have got all defensive, justified every minute worked, mile driven and the rest.
You learn….. eventually.
Coaching and Accountability simply WORKS. I have been using coaches for a short while now and have been mentoring a couple of people and have a weekly accountability call at 7am every Saturday with a likeminded friend. When you’re answering to someone you don’t want to disappoint or let down, it raises the bar. Makes it harder to just give up. And, like I do with Craig, when you pay for something, you definitely don’t want to slip up!
In May this year I qualified as a Transformational Coach and I’m taking people on as paid coaching clients. We can work together on any goals you may have, provide some accountability or just some guidance on pretty much anything you’d like to improve or change. Results WILL come. I guarantee it.
Drop me a line. 10 weeks left til end of of the year. Lets go!
PS – please subscribe to my website as I’ll be doing weekly emails with helpful tips, stories and other blog post etc. No Spam… just helpful and enjoyable content. Thank you.
